FAQ

FOR CHARITIES

What is the "Generosity" Series?
Generosity is a series of multi-charity 5K run/walk events that employ peer-to-peer fundraising. Every single participant at a Generosity event is raising funds and awareness for their charity. It's like a Generosity Party and everyone's invited.
Isn't joining a Generosity event the same thing as setting up a peer-to-peer platform in a third party event like a Marathon, for example?
No. The only real similarity is that in both cases you will be taking advantage of peer-to-peer fundraising. The important differences are:
  • With the Generosity Series you will be participating in a "charity only" event where the actual focus of the event is to raise awareness and funds for your charity.
  • At a distance of 5K (3.1miles), almost everybody can participate; not everyone can or wants to run a marathon.
  • Generosity events are considerably less expensive than events such as Marathons and have significantly lower mandatory fundraising amounts, expanding your participant base even further.
  • With a Generosity event, you won't have the added expenses of graphic design, branded t-shirt design, web site design, marketing, medals, insurance, etc., etc., etc.
That was a mouthful and there's more but let's stop there for now.
Why would I want to join a Generosity event when my charity can create its own run/walkathon?
First of all, running an event of this type is a tall order. It is labor intensive, requires skill, and specialized knowledge and expertise that most charities don't have. On top of that, such events are very expensive and very risky. Add to that, the fact that charities who run their own run/walk events lose money in their first year, break even in their second year and, if run well, raise two dollars for every dollar invested in the event in the third year. Are you willing to wait three years to raise money for your charity? We didn't think so! A Generosity event is virtually turn-key, we take the risk, heavy lifting and expense of peer-to-peer fundraising off your shoulders and deliver a minimum of two dollars for every one invested in your very first year.
In addition to the slot purchase fees, what other costs are there to my charity?
That's an easy one: None. Your slot purchase fees cover everything from registration all the way through finisher medals and awards.
Why is there a minimum fundraising commitment (MFC)?
Studies consistently prove that events where participants commit to a minimum fund raising amount raise more money. MFCs also help ensure your charity that a Generosity event will be profitable and that your fundraising will be predictable. We set our MFC low in order to provide our Charity Partners with these benefits while simultaneously keeping their potential participant bases as large as possible. Most charities cannot afford to take the risk of running their own event with an MFC because they need to be concerned about getting a large enough participant base so that the event "looks" successful.
How does participating in a Generosity event raise awareness for my charity?
There are several ways that participation in a Generosity event raises awareness for your charity, here are just a few:
  • Your charity's logo and mission statement will appear on our website
  • Your participants will be reaching out to hundreds of potential sponsors who will now be educated about your cause.
  • Every potential sponsor that visits the website will be educated about your charity
  • All of your participants' event shirts, bibs and finisher medals will have your charity's logo on them
  • Your charity will have a table, with a customized table skirt, in the Charity Village where you can spread your message to all of the other charity-minded participants and spectators at the event
  • You will benefit from the PR and marketing that we do for each Generosity event
How many slots can my charity purchase?
How many slots can my charity purchase? The platform is designed for charities of all sizes. Therefore, charities may purchase from 25 to 500+ slots until such time as permit limitations are reached.
How many Charity Partners participate in each event?
The number of Charity Partners varies from event to event. Slot purchases are done on a first-come-first served basis and no charity will be turned away so long as there are at least 25 slots available for purchase.
How long does it take for my charity to receive the funds raised by our participants?
Guess what, you won't wait at all! That's because, unlike several other popular platforms, all of the funds raised by your participants are processed directly by your charity's banking system. Those finds never even enter GENevents' banking system. We never touch your money and there is no waiting period.
How much of the funds raised by participants does GENevents keep?
Not a single penny. All of the funds raised by your participants go directly to your charity.
What the heck is a Wheel of Generosity?
The Wheel of Generosity is GENevents' signature event piece. It looks like a wheel of fortune. Every charity goes on the wheel and we spin it several times at each event to award participants with prizes and charities with cash donations. Our last individual winner won an iPad Mini and our last Charity Partner winner won $500.
Are Generosity events safe?
All Generosity events are coordinated with municipal enforcement officials and our planning team takes guidance from law enforcement and/or private security consultants. As a precaution, there is always at least one ambulance, as well as trained medical professionals, on site at every Generosity event.
How do I sign up as a Charity Partner for a Generosity event?
We thought you'd want to do that, click Register from the main menu to sign up.

FOR PARTICIPANTS

Can I finish a 5K?
If you're in decent health, the answer is yes. One of the reasons that Generosity events are 5K events is so that we can have the broadest participant base possible. That makes the event more fun and raises more money for the charities you are supporting. Nonetheless, you should check with your physician before undertaking any exercise.
Can I walk the course?
Yes! Generosity events feature many walkers (as well as wheelers) and walking is a great way to participate with a whole group of friends and with younger participants.
Is there a minimum amount of fund raising I must do?
Yes. There is a low mandatory minimum fund raising level of $200. Most participants easily raise more and we know you can too. We provide you with the tools to make fund raising easy (your own web page, sample e-mails, fundraising tips, etc). Don't worry; we've got your back.
Are Generosity events fun?
Absolutely. All of our events feature a live DJ, professional warm-up and stretch, professional cheerleaders such as the Brooklynettes and the New York Knick City Dancers, professional announcer and much, much more. Trust us; you will have a great time doing great things for your charity.
Are there any awards given out at the event?
Yes. In addition to finisher medals for all participants, there are awards for the top three overall male and female finishers as well as for the top three in each age group and the top three fundraisers.
What if my favorite charity is not a Charity Partner in a Generosity event?
Excellent question. Go to the Contact page to contact us and we will, in turn, contact your favorite charity and advise them of your interest in having them become a Charity Partner.
How much of the money I raise goes to my charity?
100%. GENevents does not charge your charity any processing fees or commissions. So raise as much as you can because you can be sure that every penny is going to your charity.
